IP53, IP65, IP66, IP67 - what do they actually mean?
The IP code (Ingress Protection) describes the extent to which a product is protected against external influences.
The first digit indicates protection against foreign bodies (like dust), and the second indicates protection against moisture.
IP53 ("semi-rugged") means:
- IP5X: The device is protected against harmful amounts of dust (dust-protected)
- IPX3: The device is protected against sprayed water at an angle up to 60° from vertical
IP65, IP66 or IP67 ("fully-rugged") means:
- IP6X: The device is completely protected against dust (dust-tight)
- IPX5: The device is protected against jet water
- IPX6: The device is protected against strong jet water
- IPX7: The device is protected against temporary immersion (up to 1m for 30min)
