Das LDBV Bayern

From field deployment to the cadastre - precise, reliable, future-proof

The Bavarian State Office for Digitization, Broadband and Surveying (LDBV), based in Munich, is the central authority for official state and cadastral surveying in Bavaria. It oversees 51 offices for digitization, broadband and surveying (ÄDBV) and 22 branch offices throughout Bavaria. Over 500 surveying teams from the ÄDBV update around 10 million digital parcels in the land register daily and process tens of thousands of land and building surveys annually.

For Bavaria-wide field operations, the LDBV relies on 739 fully rugged, customized Getac K120 solutions with Linux operating systems. These enable the necessary data to be collected directly on-site, withstand extreme weather conditions, and replace previously used rugged notebooks from another manufacturer as a reliable long-term solution.

Challenge

Bavarian cadastral surveying is a sovereign task performed in the field year-round and in all weather conditions. The current boundary situation and future changes must be precisely recorded and documented on-site, and reliable devices are mandatory. The operating system used is Linux, which is traditionally rather neglected by hardware manufacturers in terms of current drivers. The best offer had to prevail against several competitors in the tender.

Solution

In the Europe-wide tender, the Getac K120 prevailed against several competitors and replaced previously used rugged notebooks. Getac specifically provided customized device drivers for Linux. Since autumn 2025, the 739 K120 Detachables have been in use at 51 offices and 22 branch offices; a further step towards technological innovation for Bavaria.

Advantages

The technologically advanced, powerful Getac K120 combines flexible tablet use with a robust full keyboard, precise digitizer, and compatibility with the Linux operating system. High reliability, high-performance batteries, and a display that is perfectly readable in sunlight and has a stable viewing angle ensure reliable operations in all weather conditions. Long device runtimes, 5 years extended warranty, and Getac’s long-term model policy make the K120 an excellent, sustainable solution for the coming years for the LDBV.

“For a rollout of this magnitude, the introduction of the Getac K120 went really well. The devices have been reliable so far, and even with the few service cases, the cooperation was uncomplicated. As a sovereign authority, we use our Getac devices for as long as possible; with a lifespan of six to eight years, we are also being sustainable with taxpayers' money.”
