Robust tablet Getac F110 in use at the Walldürn municipal utilities
GIS maps always at hand
The rugged Getac F110 tablet is the hub of surveying work at the Walldürn municipal utility. On-call, it supports critical network operations with the mobile GIS application MGC .
Challenge
The Walldürn municipal utility's on-call services guarantee a secure, round-the-clock supply of electricity, gas, and water. This requires mobile maps of the network infrastructure for field technicians on grid deployments, which are available at any time and in any vehicle. In the event of a disaster, these maps allow technicians to quickly gain an overview of the situation and assess whether services from other divisions are also available in the affected area.
Solution
For over 25 years, the Walldürn municipal utility has been managing network documentation data in the Smallworld GIS applications of the IT services and consulting company Mettenmeier, a long-standing Platinum Partner of Getac, a leading global provider of rugged technology and video solutions. Smallworld GIS delivers daily network and asset data to MGC, its mobile, map-based application. With the introduction of Getac's rugged F110 tablets, the GIS maps are available offline at any time, making them independent of mobile phone coverage or Wi-Fi services. Reliable data availability combined with a rugged device is crucial for surveying or necessary excavations – especially under adverse conditions.
Advantages
The fully rugged Getac tablets, combined with the Mettenmeier MGC GIS application, not only ensure independent data access, but also increased security and reliable network data – in all weather conditions and even after shocks and drops. The 11.6-inch display of the F110 tablets offers ample space for geographic applications and, thanks to automatic brightness adjustment and anti-reflective coating, is easily readable even in direct sunlight. Total station operation and Trimble Access also offer maximum convenience and professionalism.
